چکیده
Abstract Background Pearl millet remains prone to many diseases; among them downy mildew caused by Sclerospora graminicola (Sacc.) Schroet is economically more important. The use of endophytic bacteria for management pearl as eco-friendly approach increasing attention sustainable alternative pesticides. objective the present study was isolate from roots cultivars and assess biocontrol activity against . Results Thirty root bacterial endophytes (PMRBEs) were isolated screened in vitro activities such as: siderophore production, hydrogen cyanide (HCN) production 1-amino cyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase activity. Sixteen isolates possessed potential, 3 found be HCN producers, 30% showed a good growth on ACC supplemented plates. On basis activities, promising endophyte PMRBE6 selected seed treatment well foliar spray manage screen house experiment. effective managing disease. Grain yield, test weight, plant height average number productive tillers maximum inoculation seeds different with PMRBE6, results statistically significant compared control. Conclusions biochemical characterization partial 16S rRNA sequencing, identified Bacillus subtilis strain PD4 (Accession no. MN400209) (PMRBE6) exhibiting could exploited friendly, organic agriculture.

Draft genome sequence of Sclerospora graminicola, the pearl millet downy mildew pathogen
Sclerospora graminicola pathogen is the most important biotic production constraints of pearl millet in India, Africa and other parts of the world. We report a de novo whole genome assembly and analysis of pathotype 1, one of the most virulent pathotypes of S. graminicola from India. The draft genome assembly contained 299,901,251 bp with 65,404 genes. This study may help understand the evoluti...
متن کاملDe novo Transcriptome Sequencing to Dissect Candidate Genes Associated with Pearl Millet-Downy Mildew (Sclerospora graminicola Sacc.) Interaction
Understanding the plant-pathogen interactions is of utmost importance to design strategies for minimizing the economic deficits caused by pathogens in crops. With an aim to identify genes underlying resistance to downy mildew, a major disease responsible for productivity loss in pearl millet, transcriptome analysis was performed in downy mildew resistant and susceptible genotypes upon infection...
متن کاملPolygalacturonase-inhibitor proteins in pearl millet: possible involvement in resistance against downy mildew.
Polygalacturonase-inhibitor protein (PGIP) is a defense protein found in plant cell walls. It prevents the degradation of pectin by modulating the endo-polygalacturonase activity. The present study has used heterologous anti-bean PGIP probes to investigate the role of PGIP in pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L) R. Br.] resistance against downy mildew caused by oomycete pathogen Sclerospora gra...
متن کاملIsolation and evaluation of proteolytic actinomycete isolates as novel inducers of pearl millet downy mildew disease protection
Native endophytic actinomycetes isolated from pearl millet roots were examined for their efficacy to protect pearl millet against downy mildew. Nineteen of 39 isolates were found to be proteolytic, of which 7 strains could directly suppress the sporangium formation of Sclerospora graminicola, the pearl millet downy mildew pathogen. Thus, mycelial suspensions containing either spores or cell-fre...
متن کاملGene Effects Controlling Heritability of Downy Mildew Resistance in Nigerian Elite Pearl Millet Lines
Downy mildew disease caused by the fungus Sclerospora graminicola Schroet, causes yield losses across the millet growing zones of Nigeria. Identification of the source of resistance and gene actions controlling resistance is useful in developing appropriate breeding strategies. Therefore there was need to study downy mildew resistance in Nigerian elite pearl millet lines. Five pearl millet pare...
